Okay, let's see. The man was on a cruise ship that capsized and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The ship is now upside down. The jewels were floating, so they reached the floor (which was upside down.) The open window let in water, so the man drowned. The chandelier was still attached to the ceiling, so it stayed in place. Is that close?

The room is the ballroom of an ocean liner which sank along time ago. The man ran out of air while diving in the wreck.
