Reds fire GM Krivsky after 9-12 start
CINCINNATI (AP)—With Walt Jocketty, the question was when.
When would the Cincinnati Reds decide to switch general managers and give Jocketty the chance to turn them into winners?
The answer: 21 games into the season.Story HereIt was only a matter of time...

well, the goal is to turn the Reds back into winners. Getting rid of Dusty Baker should be step one.

who? Jocketty? why? He didn't leave because he wanted to. At least, that's the idea I get from what I've read and heard on the radio...
The Cardinals wanted to go in a different direction from being in the playoffs every year... I guess Jocketty wanted to keep winning...

No one can say this was a surprise. I saw it since he was named a "consultant"
I agree with the guy on KTRS last night, how is Jocketty going to help the team play better now?

Wait until the Mid-Season trades... That's where Walt was a genius. and the off-season... I bet he has a free hand right now.
The Reds, obviously, won't play better right now simply because Jocketty is the new GM... But, I wouldn't be surprised to see Adam Dunn or Jr. traded in July... 2008 is a walk year for both.

He's used to dealing youth for the high priced veteren in his last year.
The Reds are full of those vets. It's gonna be interesting to see what he'll do with a reversed role

He did that with the Cardinals. During that stretch, the Birds were only 2 to 3 impact players away from the brass ring... Adding Edmonds, Rolen and Eckstein was the key...
The Reds are much farther away than 2 - 3 impact players... they are in need of a complete overhaul... Which is why Dusty Baker doesn't make sense to me... He couldn't rebuild in Chicago - with the talent he had, he should have been able to have the Cubs be more of a contender...

So why fire the GM now??
It's a move that doesn't make a lick of sense.
Wasn't Krivsky's fault the team was 9-12.
Why not do it in jan when Walt could've worked his magic

I think it does make sense... I think Walt was brought in as a consultant to look around, get a feel for the organization and what changes should be made. Once he had that info, install him as GM and let him get on to business... I agree it's not Krivsky's fault the team is 9-12. Not directly... But, he went after the players that are responsible for a 9-12 start. Walt has a better track record of getting quality players. sure, he doesn't have a miracle worker of a pitching coach in Cincy, nor a manager the quality of Tony LaRussa. but, you have to start somewhere.

I agree I never wanted to see Walt leave St. Louis, I would have prefer to keep him and let Tony go and I'm a Tony fan, Walt was having issues with ownership so it was time for Walt to move on. Once he went to Cincy as a consultant it was like writing on the wall. Dusty doesn't make sense there. Dusty should be with a vet team not a team that needs to be built. Young talent you have to have a manager that can handle the issues of young players. Dusty doesn't have those skills. Walt will turn this team around not this year but they will start being a player in the league not a door mat
