Is this some new continuation or a new movie based on the original?

Platinum Dunes is remaking the classic 1980 Sean Cunningham Friday the 13th.I wasn't thrilled when i first heard they were remaking the original, but i have to admit i'm pretty excited to see it now. This looks really good.

Heres a Short review i wrote for the new Friday the 13th remake film: I don't know about you, but the 10th time i encountered Jason Voorhees was less than pleasant. "Jason X," the movie was called. And though Jason led a full life—appearing in 3-D, vacationing in New York, going to hell, becoming a zombie, splitting in two, rotting away, walking like Frankenstein with Freddy Krueger—to be honest, metaphorically, Jason had put on a few pounds. This new "Friday the 13th," unquestionably had personality. A much needed return to crystal lake- Personally, after a decade of torture porn, I really missed the whole straightforward, arrow-through-the-eye-socket approach. What's fresh, though, is the pretense— Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes is the driving force behind this ongoing wave of '70-'80s Hawrah remakes (" Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "Amityville Horror"), has given "Friday the 13th" a sense of style and self-awareness, which tends to sharpen the edge on the machete. I really enjoyed The texas chainsaw massacre remake and Amityville. At first when i heard that PD was in charge of bringing Jason back on screen i was skeptical-but after seeing the final product my faith was restored.Derek Mears was a blast to see.He really put forth all his effort behind the mask and it shows. I really really enjoyed this... 9/10
