PHOENIX - Rick Ankiel says any drugs he received in 2004 were prescribed by a licensed physician to help him recover from reconstructive elbow surgery. Ankiel, whose comeback is one of the great stories of this season, initially acknowledged human growth hormone was among those medications during a brief session with reporters Friday, then refused to list his various prescriptions. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070908/ap_on_sp_ba_ne/bbn_cardinals_ankiel_hgh

If this happened in 2004, why is it all coming out now just when he's finally just starting to do good? I'm kinda sick of all the media hype about drugs in sports. but that's just me

I'm kinda sick of all the media hype about drugs in sports. but that's just me This investigation has been going on for a couple of years now. There has been information releases before this. Gary Matthews Jr. was implicated in the spring, just days after signing a huge contract. The huge amount of attention it got is because it is a Cardinal (so STL is going to make a big deal about it even if it was Miguel Cairo or any other Cards player) and because Ankiel has been in the national spotlight for his dramatic comeback. Troy Glaus was implicated in the same article for receiving steroids from the same drug company but nobody around here is even talking about that. He was taking them around the time he was in the World Series with Anaheim.

Although this story is still ongoing, the Ankiel stuff is pretty old so I'm lockin it.
Maybe, just maybe I'll unlock it someday, but most likely I'll send it to the old boards
