have the top 2 starters out for an indefinite period... Is Wainwright Cardinals' ace in waiting?
JUPITER, Fla. -- No one is asking Adam Wainwright to be Chris Carpenter. Yet.
However, any hopes the Cardinals have of returning to the postseason in 2008 likely lean heavily on Wainwright doing his best Carpenter impersonation. With Carpenter out until at least midseason, and Mark Mulder's return date from shoulder surgery uncertain, Wainwright is the ace of the St. Louis staff. The Rest of the story here. Personally, I like Wainwright... But, to be the #1 is a big pressure spot... I hope he can handle the extra pressure of being #1...

I think he's got it in him, however the pressure just turned up. JUPITER, Fla. — When the doctor began to explain how the wreckage in Matt Clement's right shoulder resembled the frayed and floppy remnants of a blown tire, the patient told him to stop. www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/9E95AB5ECAB82621862573F3001B0A93?OpenDocument"In all honesty, I will be surprised if he's ready for opening day," Duncan said. "And I'm not too sure even if he is ready, we wouldn't likely have him compete somewhere else just to get him in the swing of things. … He's behind. How far? Don't know yet."
