Albert Pujols played through pain in 2007. He'll have to do it again in 2008. A report on the Cardinals' Web site Thursday said that team physician Dr. George Paletta informed the slugger that surgery on his ailing right elbow isn't a wise option until a complete reconstruction is needed. Pujols has a "high grade" tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, as well as bone spurs, inflammation and arthritis in the joint. The ligament has not worsened since it was first injured in 2003. According to the report, Paletta said that Pujols was given three options over the winter — continue to play with treatment, have arthroscopic surgery to addres the bone spurs and inflammation, or have that surgery in addition to Tommy John surgery to address the ligament tear. Tommy John surgery typically requires a 12-month recovery period for pitchers and an eight-month period for other players, meaning Pujols would have missed much of the 2008 season had he chosen that option. Instead, Pujols will play and hope that a major surgery never becomes a necessity. msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7881824/Pujols-will-put-off-surgery-on-torn-elbow-ligament

He's getting a lot more down time also, like on days before a day off, he'll sit to get him the extra time off.
I expect to see Chris Duncan fillin in at first a lot more now that Spiezio is gone.
I heard about this just before ST began, Kevin Wheeler of KMOX is making a big stink about it so he can get his name out there, nothin else really to report

I wonder if this will end up being a mistake. I know Pujols doesn't want to miss playing time, but what if this develops into something really bad that could have been prevented? I know that the team doctors have said every thing's ok, but these are the same doctors who kept saying Mulder is ok, only to have to go back in and fix something else.

That's kind of what I was thinking.
This doesn't look to be shaping up as the best season we're gonna have and it might be a good year for him to get it taken care of vs. doing in on a season that we may be in contention.

I doubt he'll take an unnecessary chance, if he doesn't feel right, he'll shut it down
