ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Cardinals fans love to tell anyone who will listen how they’re the smartest in baseball, and on Wednesday night they may have proven it.
They knew better than to show up and watch this team.
Oh, the Cardinals won, an 8-3 romp over the National League champion Colorado Rockies, and that was well and good if not for the huge pockets of empty seats at the new Busch Stadium. For the first time in 165 games, and since the stadium opened in 2006, the Cardinals didn’t sell out. They were nearly 8,000 heads shy of capacity, a rather damning indictment seeing as the season is two days old.
“It’s just bad weather more than anything,” Cardinals closer Jason Isringhausen said. “It’s cold out. Kids have school tomorrow. You know, that’s the way I look at it.”

This guy makes a lot of assumptions in this article.
Pujols tommy john surgery isn't a certainty. Blaming the cardinals for Scott Spiezio, Carp and Mulder is just ignan't.
And I just happened to be listening to Slatens show when he ambushed Dave Duncan, theres no way you can blame that on Duncan.
I like Slaten, but he goes too far sometimes, this was one of those in a huge way. He calls Duncan, who is totally unaware that he is on the radio, and begins to berate him calling him a liar and a coward and then just tells him he's on the air and Duncan just says I better not be.
but the main jab is that St. Louis fans ar so bad because they snapped a 3 year sold out streak. It's gotta be at least 3 years because Busch II sold out it's final season.
Just sounds like the guy doesn't like St. Louis, which is fine, we got too many jerks here anyway

Slaten could get into trouble by talking to folks on the air if they don't know they're on the air... Duncan got blindsided. and Slaten is an idiot... I used to listen to him, but then I realized he's just a blowhard... at least, IMNSHO...

He is and he seems to hate everything and not like anything.
He said he told Duncan first off, what I remember is him saying "Hey Dave Duncan this is Kevin Slaten from 590 the fan" Not "Hey we're on the air live" or anything to that effect

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasnt Kevin Slaten arrested for punching his wife in the parking lot of a bar? Didnt he also get in some legal trouble for punching a soccer player? He is an ass.

"This is a vindictive and retaliatory practice by the Cardinals that has gotten me fired,'' Slaten said. "The Cardinals are at the very root of this, and 590 has thrown me under the bus to curry favor with the Cardinals.’’
Right... it has nothing to do with blindsiding someone on the air. Nothing to with NOT telling Dave Duncan he was on the air or that he was going to be on the air when the call was set up... The Cardinals applied pressure to KFNS to get him fired.
I guess he also believes that there are black helicopters that follow him around too...

I was lucky enough to be in my car going to Penn station at the time and heard the "interview"
It starts off coming back from commercial with the sound of a phone ringing and Slaten saying they were calling Duncan to confront him with some issues.
So how is it he says "I'm sitting there and I'm told Duncan's ready,'' Slaten said. "Then I hear the phone ring.''
I mean I used to like Slaten. Of course I didn't agree with everything he said, I don't agree with everything anybody says, no one does! But this was too far in my book and he deserved to get fired.

I used to like him, too... I liked the fact that he was controversial... Hell, I've even gone to some of his live spots when he would broadcast from various locales... He knows what he's talking about in most cases...
but this was over the line...
