CINCINNATI -- The Reds hired former Cardinals general manager Walt Jocketty on Friday as a special advisor to owner/chief executive officer Bob Castellini. According to a Reds press release, Jocketty "will advise and assist Castellini in every facet of baseball operations, including matters related to the front office, Major League field and support personnel, scouting and Minor League and international operations along with training and medical services." mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080111&content_id=2343896&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

probably to give Dusty Baker some hints on how to build a winning team. Dusty is not a rebuilder... He's barely a manager... I blame him for Kerry Wood's and Mark Prior's problems...
He sux as a manager. Glad Walt landed on his feet. but you knew he would.

I couldn't believe Bill DeWitt-less let him go... Walt must have pushed the wrong buttons. I think Cincy is gonna improve greatly over the next couple of years (and improve even more when they fire Dusty).

I wish we still had Walt. I'm not impressed with the off-season moves by the team. Of course, I wasn't all that impressed with them last year when Walt was pulling the strings...

I heard a conspiracy theory today on espn radio. The theory goes that in the next couple of years both Dewitt and LaRusa will also be with the Reds; that it's all a big plan.

They hosts said that they didn't believe it either but that the theory was floating around out there.

I bet the Reds would love to get LaRussa. They wanted him over Dusty, but Tony didn't want to rebuild a team. It's probably not too far out of the realm of possibility that Tony will be wearing a Reds uniform in a couple of years. After Walt has performed his magic and Dusty has worn out his welcome.

DeWitt and Co are doing what they can to pay off the stadium so they can sell the team. Dropping big names, signing injured players who'll sign with a smaller contract, etc, etc
I knew Jocketty would wind up in this division.
