So many sporting events are shamelessly overhyped. Not the Patriots-Colts showdown on Sunday (4:15 p.m., CBS). This one deserves the hype.
Never before have two undefeated teams met this late in an NFL season. Call it Super Bowl 41 1/2. Admit it, you've been waiting for this game since Week 1. You're glad both teams have remained unbeaten. You've been arguing with your friends about which quarterback is better, Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. Or which team is better, the 8-0 Patriots or the 7-0 Colts.
The quarterbacks alone are enough to make this one special. Who does it better than Manning, choreographing plays from the line of scrimmage, orchestrating the offense like a maestro, zipping pinpoint passes like a mechanical throwing machine? Unless it's Brady, a three-time Super Bowl champion who now has the expensive wide receivers to complement his million-dollar arm? Getting Randy Moss, Donte' Stallworth and Wes Welker has given Brady exactly what he wanted while giving the rest of the NFL nightmares.
Brady is on pace to shatter Manning's record of 49 touchdown passes in one season. How do you stop a quarterback this good with this many weapons? Nobody has figured that out. It has been breathtaking to watch: Brady throwing magnificent spirals and Moss gliding elegantly underneath them.
