Senator wants to know why NFL destroyed Patriots spy tapesSen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) wanted to hear the NFL's explanation for the purging of evidence in the infamous "Spygate" case involving the New England Patriots. He wrote commissioner Roger Goodell on Nov. 15. He got no response.
Specter, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote Goodell again more than a month later, after getting no acknowledgment to the initial communication.
Two days before the Super Bowl, there is plenty of response.
In a phone interview Thursday with The New York Times, Specter said the committee at some point will call on Goodell to discuss why the league destroyed the tapes that revealed the Patriots had been spying on the competition. The rest of the story.Somebody - please tell me why Specter's wasting our tax dollars "investigating" football... Please?

Because he's a Steelers fan.
Seriously, I doubt too many tax dollars were spent on the two letters that were written. I'd like to hear the answer to that question.

Goodell, speaking at his annual state of the league address before Super Bowl XLII, defended his decision to destroy six tapes and pages of notes taken from the Patriots after they were caught videotaping defensive signals of Jets coaches during the first game of the season. Goodell said that one tape was made during the 2007 preseason and the rest were from the 2006 season. He said there was no indication on any of the tapes that they might have benefited the Patriots during their three Super Bowl victories. And he said he believed that the practice was not uncommon around the league. On one tape, Goodell said, an opposing coach was seen waving at the camera, indicating that he knew he was being taped. But Goodell’s decision to destroy the tapes was driven, in part, by a concern that they could be leaked to the public. In fact, the tape from the Jets game was leaked. “The reason I destroyed the tapes is they were totally consistent with what the team told me,” Goodell said. “It was the appropriate thing to do and I think it sent a message. www.nytimes.com/2008/02/02/sports/football/02nfl.html?ref=sportsI've never heard a bigger crock of sh*t!!

which is probably why the Senate feels they need to probe it. Just like the Steroid-gate in baseball. Selig wouldn't do anything about it so the Senate injected themselves into it. It really seems similar...

They need to investigate this because people would be outraged if we were talking about why people will be getting rebates that should not!

I read a news report yesterday, that a Pats assistant secretly taped the Rams final walk through of formations, before their loss to the Pats in the super bowl. He hid out after the Pats team picture in order to tape the Rams. At the time it did seem like the Pats somehow knew what was coming every play. They are nothing but a bunch of low life cheats, and I hope Karma bites them in the ass today.
